"The most sacred of the duties of a government [is] to do equal and impartial justice to all its citizens." ~ Thomas Jefferson
The California Council of Churches is a faith-grounded public policy voice educating and clarifying
issues within the public arena. Standing
on the social justice tradition of Protestant Christianity, CCC helps our 1.5 million
members within 20 denominations understand the background and import of today’s
most pressing concerns.Founded in 1913, CCC has provided over a century of leadership in creating a living and effective democracy. Guided by the Constitution and by respect for the separation of church and states, CCC helps our members speak from their faith values for a vibrant democracy without seeking to impose narrow rules upon that system.
CCC helps transform our state and national discussion on every issue so that we can speak clearly to policy makers and opinion leaders concerning how we view issues of justice, equity, and fairness within our secular society. We educate and mobilize members and congregations on the complexities and moral foundations of key issues: civil rights for all people, peace, economic justice, racial equity, immigrant rights, women’s rights, LGBT inclusiveness, the rights of laboring people, and much, much more. By providing insights into broad policy and specific legislation CCC helps the daily work of service offered by congregations. We understand that no matter what our churches do to help those in need, every single act can be either enhanced or destroyed by one stroke of the pen on bad or good legislation. We stand as the educational and informational nexus between charity and justice, making sure that our charitable work is supported and that justice for all whom we serve is assured. We work for the Common Good and General Welfare in all that we do. We are transforming the world by becoming the very leaders we have been looking for. |
