We are actively engaged in promoting legislation that will lift up and enrich the lives of those whom society has too-often left behind. We advocate for those who sometimes cannot speak for themselves - women and children trying to escape poverty through CalWORKs, the state welfare-to-work program; immigrants who are seeking refuge from lives of poverty and fear; low-wage workers struggling to make ends meet; victims of torture in their own nations and at the hands of our government; people without health care but who are ill or watch their children suffer from disease and injury; entire communities that have been abandoned by the global economy.

Whoever needs us, whoever cries out - we try to be present for them and to let our members and supporters know what they can do for justice.

Each year we work with our faith and secular allies to determine what state legislative bills and Congressional programs we need to champion - or oppose. We analyze a wide range of measures that tackle a wide range of issues and try to find those that will make the greatest change in favor of justice, equity, health, and humanity.

We ask a great deal of you because we do not post 'click and send' messages but ask you to write your legislators directly from your heart. A few letters from people of faith stating the basic, moral principles underpinning their views count vastly more than all the 'political spam' we could - but don't' - have you send.

It is your voice that makes our work effective and worthwhile. It is your voice that can change the lives of those you may not know but who need you and all the love and compassion you can offer.
