Part-time Southern California Health Care Organizer

We are seeking a highly-motivated Health Care Organizer in Southern California to work as a part of our team. This Organizer position will focus on educating and organizing the faith community in Southern California to achieve meaningful health care reform. The position involves education, organizing, coalition building, outreach to key constituencies, and training and public speaking. The position is based in Los Angeles and involves significant Southern California travel and a great deal of variability in hours.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Support all aspects of the California Council of Churches’ ongoing health care education, mobilization, and development efforts;
- Enlist congregations and individuals;
- Represent the organization at collaborative meetings with partners, advocates, government officials and other stakeholders;
- Provide training to congregations and community groups, using the Council’s resources and study guides;
- Assist with writing grant proposals and grant reports, and with media and communications tasks, such as writing content for websites and researching;
- Coordinate/collaborate with New York office
- Provide general support as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree;
- Excellent organizing and communication skills;
- Excellent writing skills;
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills and attention to detail;
- Demonstrated communication, collaboration, and coordination skills;
- Substantive knowledge of health care proposals in California and working with communities of faith;
- Project management experience;
- Ability to develop strong and effective working relationships with diverse and multi-cultural constituencies;
- Strong word processing, Excel, database, and internet research skills;
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
This position is for 20 hours per week for the duration of the project, currently projected to go through 2009. Compensation is $27,500 to $30,000 per year DOE plus health benefits and travel, supplies, and incidental reimbursement. Possibility of working from home available.
