Feb. 28 CCC Faith Health Care Conference for Northern California
Saturday, February 28 California Council of Churches is holding its first-ever Northern California Health Care Conference, and we invite you all to attend!
We will hold this exciting event at First Presbyterian of Oakland, 2619 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94612. The event will be from 8:30-3:00 and will include Patricia Gleich from the National Council of Churches Health Task Force and head of Health Ministries for the Presbyterian Church (USA) denomination as keynote speaker followed by several workshops offered both morning and afternoon.
The event is co-sponsored by the National Council of Churches, UCSF Abundant Life Health Ministries Initiative, and the Applied Research Center.
As you know from long history with us that public policy on health care is flying at us thick and fast. President Obama has told us health care is a top national priority for his administration, while in California we face serious cuts as well as programs for and in health care for Californians.
This conference will offer you an opportunity to bring your faith voice into this issue in a wide range of ways. We will offer a chance for you to learn how important – critical – the faith values and language are when both evaluating health policy and “speaking truth to power.” We will explore “best practices” in health ministries looking at several different projects in Northern California and how they serve their communities. We will provide a real discussion of “responsibility” both personal and social, by looking at health disparities for communities of color that make healthy ways of life nearly impossible, and we will examine the role that congregations may have in a national pandemic such as “bird flu” or other disaster.
Cost for this one-day event is $15 per person. This will cover the continental breakfast, lunch, and all materials handed out at the conference. Limited scholarship assistance is available.
We hope you all can join us. We must have reservations by February 20 to guarantee a lunch reservation for you. Click here to print a registration form. Forms can be faxed to 916-488-7310. Or you can register online by credit card or PayPal by clicking here.
Please be involved in learning the many ways you and your congregation can bring your faith values and your faith insights to bear on the many important choices about health policies facing our state and nation in the future.
