Subject:
War on Greed - a new video from Brave New Films
Date: December 7, 2007

How many of us make over $50,000? Per HOUR?

In this Advent season we cherish for its hope and message of compassion for all, filmmakers at Brave New World productions examine the growing disparities in wealth and income in America that often challenge our faith.

In a nation that celebrates democracy and equality, laws that give huge tax breaks to the rich to close businesses and throw away jobs are shown to provide lavish lifestyles for at least one man, Henry Kravis. While ordinary, hard-working Americans barely scrape by, Henry has amassed fortunes untold that bought him 5 monumental homes and all the trappings of wealth. How? He gets tax breaks and benefits the rest of us cannot obtain - even as what he does puts people out of work and closes plants and operations that harm communities.

"War on Greed" is an 8-minute video that highlights some of the reasons for the lost American Dream and details the ostentation of those who can take advantage of their unequal political clout.

From the same filmmakers who offered the Mother's Day and Father's Day films we sent earlier this year, we think this is thought-provoking and perfect in a time when a holiday that should highlight our faith is too often translated into materialism.
