RING THE BELLS FOR PEACE

“If you…had only recognized on this day the things that make for peace!” Luke 19:41-42

On March 19, 2008 , the anniversary of the start of the ground war in Iraq, the California Council of Churches invites all faith communities that have bells to ring them for five minutes at noon that day (one minute for each year of the Iraq War). No bell? How about pausing to light a candle, ring a chime, pray for peace, attend a vigil, remember those who have died, or practice silence. Whatever we choose to do, may we remain open both to our own grief and to the possibilities to be peacemakers in our own lives.
